New Transition Committee

Dear IPPF family:

Following the extraordinary and historic week for IPPF that just took place in Delhi, I am pleased to reach out to you as the Chairperson of the Transition Committee, that was established by the Governing Council at its meeting from December 1-3, 2019 to lead the process of implementing the reforms recommended by the General Assembly and endorsed unanimously by the Governing Council. You articulated a clear vision for IPPF’s future governance and resource allocation system, and we feel the sense of urgency you instilled for driving this change.

The Transition Committee has seven members, two of whom are youth and one of whom will be a person external to the IPPF, as follows:

• Mr. Andreas Prager (Chair), Governing Council member
• Ms. Waimarama Matena, Governing Council youth member
• Ms. Tracy Robinson, Governing Council member and external advisor
• Dr. Sharman Stone, Governing Council member and external advisor
• Ms. Esther Vicente, IPPF Finance & Audit Committee Chairperson
• Ms. Dyuti Krishnan, youth volunteer from Family Planning Association of India

Ms. Aileen McColgan, IPPF’s Honorary Legal Counsel, will also participate as an ex-officio member of the Transition Committee. In selecting Ms. Dyuti Krishnan to participate on the Transition Committee, the Governing Council wished to honor the exceptional hospitality and hard work of the youth volunteers who supported us all during our time in India. As a committee, we are actively recruiting an external member who will bring critical skills and outside perspective to our work, and we expect to have this person in place in the next few weeks.

Our task is to swiftly carry forward the reform recommendations that you collectively put forward at the General Assembly, through to the first meeting of the new IPPF Board of Trustees, which we anticipate will take place in July of 2020. During this time, we commit to actively keep stakeholders from across the Federation informed in a transparent process and consult with the GC where needed, and as such we will sustain and expand the communications platforms that were established during the first phase of the reforms. Over the next six months we will take the necessary steps to enable a smooth transition to a new governance structure, with a new Board of Trustees elected at the next Governing Council meeting in May 2020. Simultaneously, we will lay the foundation for developing a new resource allocation formula and system that takes into account the issues you identified as key for a new model.

We feel privileged to serve you and IPPF in this way, and we embark on the task ahead buoyed by the joy, unity, and commitment we felt coming out of the General Assembly.
